Barnhart Balfour Beatty completed construction of the new Industrial Technology building and is renovating and expanding the existing Campus Center for Pasadena City College in Pasadena, Calif. The $47-million campus facelift includes new construction, renovation, and expansion work to three buildings.
The newly constructed 66,558 SF Industrial Technology Building includes fifteen new laboratories, general classrooms, and several faculty and administrative offices. Prior to construction, Barnhart demolished existing tennis courts to make way for the new facility. Barnhart also constructed and replaced six new tennis courts for the college.
The Campus Center includes a complete remodel of the interior and replacement of the exterior glass wall system that will meet Title 24 (standards?). The newly remodeled 47,065-SF Campus Center replaces the original 40-year old building, and will provide services for the college’s 29,000 students. Once completed, the center will include a newly designed Campus Police Department, Business Service center, cafeteria, sports bar, and a new kitchen and dining facility. The facility will be fully equipped with wireless Internet access.
Barnhart. also demolished an existing one-story bookstore and is replacing it with a newly designed two-story bookstore, which is a part of the Campus Center expansion project. The 19,970-SF building will double its original size and will be large enough to provide adequate services to the College’s large student enrollment.
